Рассмотрим два графика.
На графике (а) представлена кривая зависимости для товара стандартного качества (см. Normal product), спрос на который находится в прямой зависимости от изменения дохода: чем выше доход, тем выше спрос. На графике (б) представлена кривая для товара низкого качества (см. Inferior product), спрос на который падает по мере роста дохода, что в основном обусловлено тем, что покупатели теперь могут позволить себе приобретать более дорогие товары. Степень наклона кривых отражает эластичность спроса по доходу: более крутой наклон свидетельствует о неэластичности спроса, т.е. незначительные изменения величины спроса приводят к существенным изменениям дохода и наоборот.
